My name is Sara Kuliliya Isherwood.

I was born in a remote community in the Northern Territory called Wirlyatjarrayi (Willowra Station) on the Lander River, and spent my formative years there and in other remote areas of Australia.

My mother is Cantonese and was born in Guandong, China; she spent many years working as a remote area nurse in the Northern Territory after leaving China. My father was a remote area teacher and is a published author.

I am a Chinese Australian writer, theatre maker, educator and counsellor with training in holistic creative therapies. I also use somatic healing techniques including Reiki to enhance well-being.

My specialty is in providing holistic well-being services specifically for artists, those in the arts industry, and anyone interested in a creative approach.

I graduated from the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, with a degree in Drama and have since completed formal qualifications in Transpersonal Art Therapy, Education and Counselling. Currently, I am completing a Master of Social Work, graduating in 2027.

I have a broad range of life and work experience, having worked and lived around Australia as well as internationally. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss working with me, either in the arts, education or well-being areas.

Sara is funny and thoughtful as well as being a great teacher for beginners and experienced people.

Testimonial

“Sara is like a tradie for the mind, with loads of tools – and for whom no job is too big or too small. She’s a highly-skilled listener who has supported me through grief and loss, cancer recovery, writing grant applications, revising the narrative structure of my book, creating an art portfolio, and simple everyday tasks such as managing my calendar and implementing flexible self-care routines. Art, life, and the artlife are so easy to talk about with Sara because she’s an artist herself.”
